At the Center

Term: 2A

Course: ARCH 292
Typology: Law School

Year: December 2024

At The Center takes on indigenous law around a symbolic and functional parti of a central core with three connected wings. The core represents the heart of the institution, a space for unity, community, and cultural exchange. This area houses the main ceremonial space, the Indigenous courtyard and learning space, honoring traditional practices, and a central gathering space inspired by the circle as a symbol of equity and inclusivity. Each wing radiates from the core, embodying different pillars of the school’s mission: learning, community, and reconciliation. The learning wing contains classrooms, lecture halls, a moot court. The community wing is dedicated to collaboration and wellness, featuring a student lounge. The reconciliation wing is reserved for administrative offices and the library has it’s own feature floor with a circular skylight.

Interpretive Indigenous-Inspired Pattern
This pattern was designed as a symbolic representation of people standing together in unity and support. While not an authentic Indigenous motif, it was created as a respectful visual tribute to collective strength and community. Its repetitive geometry and symmetry reflect a sense of gathering, connection, and shared purpose.
